Editors have revealed news of their 8th studio album, “Surface, Echo & Sound”, which is due out in October with the bonus of the latest single, ‘The Rush’.
Following their last release four years ago and last year’s solo record from frontman Tom Smith, it seems that Editors have forged a sound deep in stripped-back and acoustic origins.
“It was a very productive summer, the sun was out for the most part, we were in greenest Gloucestershire, not far from where I live, on this innocuous little industrial estate – it was pretty much the opposite of being in Berghain!”

The video for the track was shot in Tokyo and directed by Henry Ehara, and features two characters dancing their way through the city in a range of diverse situations.
Speaking of the new single, ‘The Rush’, Smith has said it was written as an imagined bar scene of two people talking about life, drinking, and thinking about all the ups and downs. As the man himself put it, “that idea of finding comfort in people close to me, friends and loved ones and family, is a theme that comes up all the time. It’s a theme that is in everything to a degree.”
The band are also set to play two dates in Ireland as part of a wider European tour, with shows on 28 February 2027 at Vicar Street in Dublin and on 1 March 2027 at the Ulster Hall in Belfast.
“Surface, Echo & Sound” is out on 30 October 2026 via Play It Again Sam.
