Listen | ULRIKA SPACEK announce new single ‘The Sheer Drop’ and new album

UK alternative rockers reveal new album details.

ULRIKA SPACEK have announced their long-awaited third album, “Compact Trauma”, along with the release of the first track written for the album, ‘The Sheer Drop’.

The track details the band’s loss of their home and recording space from where their first two records were made.

As with the other two records, the first track you write feels not just like an opener for the record, but like a grasp for something that allows you to go somewhere else,” the band explains, “we have always enjoyed the false start this song got, it’s misleading and kind of playing on the cliché that a band comes back after a few years and makes a synth pop album. In many ways it’s a song in 3 parts, with the last part sounding like our world is collapsing

Kyle Macfadzean , a longtime collaborator with the band, filmed the video for the track in Hackney Wick last month, offering a peek into the body of songs.

Their previous albums were recorded at KEN, a studio and rehearsal space in Homerton. When working on the third, their beloved studio space titled KEN unexpectedly fell target to gentrification. The band were forced to move to Hackney – and soon made for a seriously unnerving affair. After some time had lapsed due to various global events, they returned once more to heal the wounds left by a tumultuous period.

“Compact Trauma” will be released on 10 March via Tough Love.
