Los Angeles-based indie-folk musician, Mal, is the project Mallory Hauser who has released the new single ‘Sports’ – the second track from the upcoming second EP “Continuous Short Feature Film”.

‘Sports’ pushes Mal’s soft voice as it threads acoustic guitar pickings before roaring guitars and pulsing percussion push through.

“‘Sports’ came during a time when I was struggling to find a way out of a stagnant and desaturated cloud – feeling depleted and constantly losing any bearings on which way was up or down. It aims to capture the moments when every monotonous day feels like living in a sort of grey, opaque snow globe with no way to get out. I found it similar to the slumps that happen when you play sports. Even when you’re exhausted and in a lull, it’s still a mental game that you have to repeatedly try to pull yourself out of.”

The self-directed music video for ‘Sports’ – made in collaboration with the director of photography Seannie Bryan (Wallows, Skullcrusher) constitutes a cut of the broader ‘Continuous Short Feature Film’ – a 20-minute long visual project shot on Super 8mm film.

“This video came as a refreshing reunion after a time of feeling so isolated and alone. It was the first collaboration with DP Seannie Bryan, who so beautifully captures that renewed spark of community on Super 8mm film, and stars so many amazing people who are all kind and talented in their own right.”
