DIIV release new single ‘Skin Game’, an exciting statement of return from the band who will unveil new album “Deceiver” in October.
Pithy guitars ooze out of ‘Skin Game’ and set precedent for the forthcoming LP due on the Captured Tracks imprint. It will be lauded as ‘the rebirth’ of a band that so many thought had collapsed, but never did.
In the run-up to the recording, Zachary Cole Smith has spent six months in several different rehab facilities at the beginning of 2017, living with other addicts to beat his own temptations.
“Being a recovering addict myself, there are a lot of questions like, ‘Who are we? What is this disease?’ Our last record was about recovery in general, but I truthfully didn’t buy in. I decided to live in my disease instead. „Skin Game” looks at where the pain comes from. I’m looking at the personal, physical, emotional, and broader political experiences feeding into the cycle of addiction for millions of us.”
“Deceiver” was recorded in Los Angeles in March 2019. Sonny Diperri (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails) was their hired outside production influence to expand their “sound palette” and create a fuller sound.
“Deceiver” is due out on 4 October on Captured Tracks.
