Music | Review: All Tvvins at Whelan’s 13/11/2014

If you were lucky to catch All Tvvins – formerly known as just ‘Tvvins’ – during one of their festival appearances this summer, then you’ll know that Conor (The Cast of Cheers) and Lar (Adebisi Shank) have a smooth sounding synth rock for the masses in their arsenal.

Tonight however, they’ve gone all out with tracks old and new, not to mention a top-notch support to match a highly anticipated gig as this.  Of course I’m talking about Dublin act, SPIES, whose releases on Trout Records have been swirling around many blogs both home and across the water.  Their performance of ‘Moosehead’ was as passionate as they come, although it seemed a contrast to their shy and quiet stage presence.

For All Tvvins, its exciting to see the band pack out the downstairs of Whelan’s, with so many of the crowd chatter about their favourite songs from the duo’s previous musical outfits.

Opening with ‘Book’, the pulsating bass matched with chimes was an instant good vibe for those in front.  Heads shaking, arms swinging, the next few tracks were key to keep this atmosphere from dropping, so launching into ‘Thank You’ and ‘Two Worlds’ offered the occasionally euphoric and intense sound to maintain this stellar set, which could propel any band to new heights.

Highlight was ‘You Better’ towards the end of the set, a track that went missing during the name change but was still firmly imprinted on people’s minds during the mouthing of lyrics.

Perhaps there is big news on the way from All Tvvins, this gig certainly showed promise.
