Music | Review: “Back To School” EP by GANGS

“Back To School” is the début EP by Dublin rock outfit GANGS. Produced by Brian Foley of The Blades, GANGS’ frontman Jordan Curtis said,

“He’s a hero of ours so we’re really excited about working with him. The Blades played a big part in our development as a band and we really look up to them.”

A short bio with the EP details the theme behind the four tracks, documenting the “tumultuous love affair between a young man coming of age and his
city.”

‘Young Employment’ would easily soundtrack a quick drive through Dublin City streets, there’s a bit of everything in this song, the problems you would see, the things you would overhear, it all goes into it’s identity.  ‘Daisy’ is noise-pop and pretty catchy too at 2:49 in length.  The influence of The Blades in evident throughout the EP, its clean cut and rebellious at the same time.

To mark the launch the band, in association with MCD, will play two gigs in one day at Dublin’s recently updated Academy 2 on Saturday 27 September. The first show (2pm) will be an over 14’s matinee and the late show (7pm) will be over 18’s with a full bar.

“Back To School” is out on 26 September through Reekus Records.
