So Arctic Monkeys is probably one of the biggest gigs of the summer, and Marlay Park’s last before Longitude hits Rathfarnham next weekend. But what can we expect at tonight’s show? Well if their set at Portugal’s Optimus Alive is anything to go by, then probably a lot of their latest.
NME reported yesterday that Alex Turner and co. were out to make a point by ditching some of their first album hits and suggesting a lot of covers. The band do seem to favour Black Sabboth’s ‘War Pigs’ around the time of ‘Arabella’, which could really sway the crowd either way.
With around 37.000 expected for the sold out show, a stellar supporting cast on beforehand in Royal Blood, Miles Kane, and Jake Bugg, not even a computer glitch such as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ show or maybe even the weather could dampen your spirits.
Again according to the article, expect the heartstrings to undergo some testing with ‘No.1 Party Anthem’ played by Turner on acoustic guitar, which is believed to bring a tear to the coldest of hearts.
‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ and ‘Dancing Shoes’ survive the first album ditchings. Second album tracks ‘Brainstorm’, ‘505’ and ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ get squeezed in too.
But enough of me rambling of what might be on the setlist, have a look for yourself below!
