Dublin electro-pop band VANN MUSIC have enjoyed a fruitful summer gig-wise. NME picked the band out as one of their highlights at Electric Picnic, which is some achievement given the amount of talent on show over the weekend in Stradbally.
But on Saturday night, it was Kilkenny’s turn to get the Electro Shock Dreams treatment, as the four piece brought their intense live show to the Set Theatre.
By two songs in, VANN MUSIC were in full swing, clearly well rehearsed as the crowd came in like waves between songs. By the fourth song, latest single Into the Night was a sign of the band getting further into their stride.
EP title track Electro Shock Dreams followed, giving traction to songs that anyone who knew of the band before-hand would recognise. The set list continued as songs like Tina, Show Me Your Love and an excellent version of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance.
The gig also had it’s fair share of unusual moments too, from Billy Elliot-esque impersonators to a bearded man yielding his crouches in the air. It seemed that VANN MUSIC’S tunes will get you out of your seat and feeling better, just ask the guy on crutches!
In what was an all-round good show by the Dublin four-piece, if what the audience witnessed for free in the Set Theatre is anything to go by, then no doubt fans at Whelans on November 1st will be waving radiators and lightsabers.
