Toronto punk band PUP are set to release their new album, “Who Will Look After The Dogs?”, in May. Alongside the news of the record release date, we are treated to a video for single, ‘Hallways’.
PUP—made up of Stefan Babcock, Nestor Chumak, Zack Mykula, and Steve Sladkowski—gear up to give a piece of their mind on their fifth album. Recorded in Los Angeles with John Congleton in just three weeks, the record is said to emobdy ‘the peak of PUP’s decade of relentless touring and their electrifying chemistry’.
“Within days of announcing our last album, coincidentally titled The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND, my life unexpectedly imploded. I wrote the lyrics for ‘Hallways’ while all that was going on. It was a weird fucking week. The title of our new record, Who Will Look After The Dogs?, is what I wrote at the top of the page, the very first thing written for this album. I think it’s devastating, but in a ‘holy shit this is overdramatic’ kinda way. At least in context of the line that comes before it. That’s what makes it funny to us. That overblown stuff we all say in our dark moments can be hilarious once you’ve cooled off a bit. I don’t know if anyone else thinks it’s funny, but sometimes you gotta laugh at yourself. It’s the only way out of the abyss. Trust me.”
Stefan Babcock, PUP.
The album’s lead single ‘Hallways’, was the first song written for the album, fortifying and open, it epitomises the self-deprecating tone that Babcock seems to pen in his work. The video for the track, directed by Sterling Larose, displays a melange of scenarios through a photo collage and 3D rendering, including one scene of a guitar player sewn into a couch and another with the frontman in a freezer box.
After their successful sold-out shows with Jimmy Eat World at the end of last year, PUP are set to return to the UK and EU this May for a headline tour in support of their new album.
New album “Who Will Look After The Dogs?” is out 2 May 2025 via Little Dipper / Rise Records.
