The Drums have released their new album, “Jonny”, alongside the fascinating music video for ‘Dying’ featuring Rico Nasty.
On the track, The Drums’ Jonny Pierce desparingly looks for a way to escape isolation. Pierce’s illusory vocals combine effortlessly with Rico Nasty’s emotional candor.
The accompanying music video portrays a funeral, as fans file in with Nasty as they watch on. The spirit of Pierce then discovers he is able to find companionship once has passed away.
“For much of my life, I have felt like a ghost floating outside of my own body, outside of my own experiences, outside of my own relationships. The song and video portray that frustrating disconnection to self, and how that disconnect plays a part in how others have sometimes seen and experienced me, leading to a feeling of loneliness without hope. If I can’t be in my body, and know myself, how can I learn to love myself? And if I can’t learn to love myself, how can I be truly known and loved by anyone else? Dying all my life… ”

The new album dives into Pierce’s experiences growing up in a cult-like religious community in upstate New York, and the journey he found himself on to come to terms with the issues faced during that time.
