Hilary Woods is set to release her self-produced new album “Acts of Light” next month. In anticipation of that, the artist shares the visual for newly released single ‘Burial Rites’.
Woods produced the video for the track herself, using a mélange of archival footage and various types of film.
“The video is comprised of 16mm and 8mm hand processed film together with archive footage and still photographs that convey private and collective rituals as acts of light to accompany ‘Burial Rites’, a droning lament inspired by the keening tradition.”
Hilary Woods.
It took over two years between the west coast of Ireland and Dublin to finish the record. In that time she enlisted members of the Palestrina choir in the Pro Cathedral Dublin, along with the vocals of the Galway City Chamber Choir. The strings were arranged with Jo Berger Myhre in Oslo, whilst field recordings were captured throughout travels in the north west of Spain.
A European tour is also set to kick off this month just before the album release, which will see Woods headline two Dublin shows.
New album “Acts of Light” is out on 3 November 2023 via Sacred Bones.
