Sigur Rós have gifted their fans a new track titled ‘Blóðberg,’ just in time for their anticipated Europe and North America tour.

This epic orchestral composition, which lasts for seven minutes, may indicate the arrival of a new album, their first in ten years.

The video for the song, directed by Johan Renck, who is renowned for his work on HBO’s Chernobyl and music videos for Madonna, Robyn, and Beyoncé, is a true masterpiece.

“I feel as nihilistic as one could regarding the future. We are powerless against our own stupidities. Some aspects of this came to merge with my impressions of the themes of ‘Blóðberg’. The music becoming a score to my own miserable thoughts, giving them beauty as only music can.”

The return of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson adds to the excitement of the release, and the London Contemporary Orchestra, conducted by Robert Ames, has also contributed to the song’s unusual sound.

During their forthcoming European tour, Sigur Rós will be joined by the London Contemporary Orchestra and Ames – who also join them on the Stateside tour with the Wordless Music Orchestra. The tour kicks off this Friday at the Royal Festival Hall in London, as part of Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown.
