Overlooked by the Galtee Mountains in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, Indiependence is one of the more picturesque festivals.  The music and arts festival situated just 15 minutes walk from the town, with many activities and acts to tempt you down to Cork for the weekend.

Getting there

Getting to Indiependence can be done by car or bus, with Bus Eireann operating a number of routes that stop in the town (no. 7 from Dublin – Cork for example). There are car parks available beside and within close proximity of the site.

Tickets

Spread out across three days, the festival is reasonable priced, as 3 day camping tickets range from €99 – €109 (SOLD OUT), day tickets will cost you €49.  There are a few Hotels and B&B’s near by in the town, while camping consists of general and family campsites. Camper van tickets are priced at €60.

What else?

A craft beer hall with acts sandwiched inbetween, workshops run by Mitchelstown Youth Cafe, and a host of fringe events in the main arena to keep you occupied if you take a break.

There will also be DJ’s in the Bacardi Bar, not to mention other places to consume beverages of an alcoholic nature at the Canadian Molsen and Kopparberg Bars.

Acts to see:

Picking five acts or more is headache inducing given this quality of line up, but here it goes.

Tom Odell was very impressive when he supported Billy Joel at The O2 Dublin last November, with similar acclaim for his support to Paul Weller in RHK earlier this summer.  Catch him while he’s here, which isn’t very often to be honest Mr. Odell.

Hozier  obviously stands out for many as one to see.  His latest single ‘Sedated’ is likely to take off soon and a great chance to hear material from his upcoming début album due in the next few months.

Damien Dempsey  is great for the emotional songs turn singalong with your mates.  Even if he doesn’t play ‘Almighty Love’, you’ll feel like you have come back from a trad session at the local.

Delorentos  haven’t played many gigs of late, the new record means the lads are taking time out, so a chance to see a great live act and possibly hear some new material is worth a shot ain’t it?

Elastic Sleep were part of a stellar line up at The Button Factory recently.  One of many local Cork acts you should see this weekend, their single ‘Leave You’ is shoegaze rock at it’s best.

Other acts to check out include: Colour//Sound / White Lies / Sultans Of Ping / Tvvins / Walking On Cars / The Vincents / Benny Smiles / We Cut Corners / Kodakid / Orla Gartland / The Academic / Big September / Darling
