HMV is set to come on board as sponsor for two of the country’s summer music festivals.
Music retailler, HMV, is set to come on board as sponsor for two of the country’s summer music festivals – Cork’s INDIEPENDENCE and newly formed Light Colour Sound.
HMV will be a main sponsor of INDIEPENDENCE Music & Arts Festival, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday Weekend (August 1-3) in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. HMV will sponsor the Second Stage at the festival, which has a 1,200 capacity tent. The stage will host live performances by Irish bands including Delorentos, Damien Dempsey, Lisa O Neill and We Cut Corners.
HMV will also be a main sponsor at Light Colour Sound, the new music festival being held at Shankhill Castle, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny (July 4-5). HMV will sponsor the Main Stage at the festival, featuring performances by international and Irish acts including Dan le Sac vs Scroobuis Pip, And So I Watch You From Afar, Cathy Davey, Jerry Fish, Wallis Bird, Jape, O Emperor, R.S.A.G., Engine Alley, Minutes, Kila, Raglans, The Barley Mob, I Draw Slow, and Halves.
The music retailer will have a pop-up shop on site at both festivals, where fans can purchase music by all of the performances at each festival.
Two official launch events for both INDIEPENDENCE and Light Colour Sound will happen on Saturday, 31 May. The INDIEPENDENCE launch will take place in HMV Limerick between 4pm and 6pm on the day, and will feature live performances from We Cut Corners and The Academic, both of whom will perform live on the HMV stage at the festival.
Meanwhile, the official Light Colour Sound launch event will take place in HMV Grafton Street on Saturday 31 May at 3.00pm. The event will include live performances from The Young Folk and The Barley Mob, who will also perform on the HMV Main Stage at Light Colour Sound.
Commenting on the announcement, Chris Keena, HMV’s Head of Music said: “HMV’s sponsorship of both INDIEPENDENCE and Light Colour Sound reinforces our commitment to live Irish music, and comes on the back of our new partnership with First Music Contact and the Breaking Tunes Breaking Stage. INDIEPENDENCE is one of the most popular and credible Irish music festivals around, while Light Colour Sound promises to be a fantastic addition to the Irish summer festival calendar. We are proud to sponsor both events and bring HMV Retail to the Festivals, giving our customers a chance to purchase albums by the bands on both bills.”
