Sites such as Deezer, rdio and Spotify are on the rise.
Latest record industry figures from the IFPI have found that music streaming services are on the rise. Sites such as Spotify, Deezer, rdio and more offer music streaming which has quickly grown as the new way consumers discover music.
Key findings in the report found that subscription based services saw a revenue increase of 51% in 2013, with global digital revenues increasing by 4.3%. Europe has seen the first growth in over 12 years, while revenues in the US and Latin America reached a stable level of growth.
The report also found that smaller markets are also increasing in revenues, as digital channels have opened up new opportunities in countries with a weak physical retail market.
One CEO of rising music streaming service, Axel Dauchez, CEO of Deezer had this to say on the recent figures, “The IFPI figures are a strong affirmation that subscription services are helping to revitalise the industry around the world. This is set to continue – we believe this year will be the year that streaming enters the mainstream in terms of absolute growth. It’s particularly exciting to be a part of what is happening in emerging markets, where new revenue is being injected into ailing music scenes as people go straight to mobile – something we’re seeing keenly in markets like Brazil and Columbia. We’re proud to be helping to drive this growth. But the real value to the industry will be the extent to which we can do more than provide access to music – how services like Deezer can help artists get discovered while giving music fans the best, most personal music experience there is.”
