Music | Seamus Heaney to be honoured at Belfast Music Week

Belfast Music Week are set to celebrate the creative relationship between the city and Nobel Laurette poet Seamus Heaney.  The event is to be titled ‘An Evening for Seamus Heaney,  A poet to be grateful for’

The Ulster Orchestra will take to Belfast’s Waterfront Hall for the occasion on November 17th.  Heaney studied in the city, which he often referred to as the ‘Home Front’ in his poetry behind his native South Derry.

The evening will see the Ulster Orchestra play music inspired by Heaney’s work, along with leading actors performing some of the songs.   The pieces will be based around key moments in Heaney’s life and autobiographical memories of the man himself.

Belfast Music Week will see over 250 events take place in 70 venues across the city.

Tickets for the event are on sale now for £15 and are available from www.ulsterorchestra.com or by telephone on 028 90 246609.  The concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle.
