Irish band Villagers have made history today following their Mercury Music Prize nomination, as they are the first Irish act to be nominated twice for the prestigious award.
Their second album Awayland is one of the 12 albums shortlisted for this year’s Mercury Prize. Awayland was the follow up to their debut album Becoming a Jackal, which was also nominated back in 2010.
Conor O’Brien from Villagers had this to say following the nomination ‘We are surprised and honoured to be nominated for the Mercury Prize with {Awayland}; we put a lot of love into this album and the attention that this will afford it is currently warming the cockles no end’.
Villagers now join acts like Arctic Monkeys, Rudimental, Foals, David Bowie and Jake Bugg to name a few in the running for the prize.
The Mercury Music Prize event will take place on Wednesday 30th October at the Roundhouse in London, where Villagers will be hoping to snatch the coveted award.
