Music | Review: “Morning Run | Evening Sun” by Youth Mass

Youth Mass are a four-piece indie outfit from Trim, Co.Meath.  Their début album was launched to a packed room in Whelan’s in early 2014, and with their like-able sound and indie hooks it is easy to see why.

Opening track ‘Morning Run’ channels an Oasis track ‘Morning Glory’ with the whaling distorted guitar, before settling on the cool path to an indie rock melody.  Third track on the album is ‘Dream On’, an absolute belter of a track that should be on some sort of AIB advert or intro to a reality TV show because of the catchy riffs and bass line that would suit someone staring into the distance in a self-reflecting pose.  It floats effortlessly into your subconscious, you’re likely to sing it back for a while.

At times the band sound like Editors minus Tom Smith’s vocals, particularly on track ‘Old Enough to Know Better’.  Overall a great cinematic effort by Youth Mass.

“Morning Sun | Evening Run” is out now on Pickled Onion Records.
